We will cover numerous topics including:

Instructor

A native of Northern Virginia, Ryan Walker began playing saxophone at the age of 10.  He went on to major in Music Education and Saxophone Performance at Virginia Tech.   In 2002 he began his career as band director at Montross Middle School in Westmoreland County, Virginia.  Teaching 150 low-income students using school-stocked instruments, Ryan quickly taught himself the basics of instrument repair.  After a short stint in public education, he moved back to the D.C. area to work at Chantilly Music, a music retail and rental store.  Seeing a niche for repairs on their rental instruments, Ryan began doing repairs in-house.  In 2012,  Ryan made the move to full-time instrument repair at

MusicMedic in the Sax ProShop.  Originally hired to work in their “assembly line” style repair shop as a dry fitter and padder, he soon branched out into every aspect of the “Überhaul”, with key fitting being his area of expertise.  Ryan has given repair clinics at the Navy Band International Saxophone Symposium, Carolina Saxophone Festival, Atlanta Saxophone Day, and the NAPBIRT Technical Training Center. When he’s not repairing and restoring vintage saxophones, he can be found maintaining his collection of exotic orchids, rewatching The Office for the millionth time, or training and teaching Brazilian jiu jitsu where he holds the rank of purple belt.
